weird boot errors! Help!

Hi,

I own a IBM t23 laptop and i love it, just last night i was trying to get my integrated wireless card to work, so i compiled the drivers and added support within the kernel. I built it into the kernel so no modules. I reboot my laptop and i get this really weird error message:

It is possible that the compressed files have become corrupted. You can use the 'bzip2recover' program to attempt recover data from undamaged sections of corrupted files.

It goes on to ask for root password for maintenance. Some things ive done trying to fix it would be removing support for wireless device and 'make clean && make && make modules_install && make install', I also reinstalled grub. Here is my dmesg. I would really appreciate it if someone could really help me fiqure this out? Apparently it does look like ACPI is whats doing it, I will continue to research whatever I can but whoever else can help me out that would be great!!! Thanks in advance!

wow! hey it actually worked? Kinda odd such a thing can give such a drastic turn of events. Just out of curiosity, what could cause such a thing? could it have been caused by adding support in my kernel for wireless device?

Don't think so. It seems like the dev tarball have been corrupted. Try to run

i am a computer novice and my boyfriend has disappeared for the day went to turn on my pc and while starting up it stopped and said:-
*Root filesystem could not be mounted read/write
Give root password for maintenance (or type control-D to continue)



I typed the password and now it says
