Hi, my problem is that emerge --sync seems to time out. Is there any way I can increase the timeout for emerge sync?
Thanks,
Chris

From the make.conf man page, you can add RSYNC_TIMEOUT="seconds" to make.conf.
Hope this helps.

If that is the case and you have no particular ISP connection problems then you may need to refresh your mirrors using mirrorselect. Otherwise I am not sure why it could time out. _________________ Regards,

It just stops while downloading, hags there for about 300 secs. and then tells me it timed out.
If I increase the timeouttime to 3000 secs. It hangs there for 30000 secs and tells me it timed out.
And it's not allways the same position.

I'm sorry that didn't work. The only other things I could think of trying are changing your mirror and re-emerging rsync.
After that, I'm out of ideas. |

Is emerge --sync the only case where downloading times out? What happens when you emerge a package with a big download (e.g. OOo, mozilla, etc.)? If it only happens in rsync then run # mirrorselect -d -s 5 and try emerge --sync again.
If it happens generally then it is an ISP/router issue. I'm not the right person to guess here, but it could be something to do with the keep alive packets between your PC/router/server. All things being equal default values of associated components in this chain should work fine (unless you've tweaked things . . .) _________________ Regards,

I am having a similar problem. One day emerge sync was working fine, now it often hangs (with a timeout of 600).
I have tried changing the rsync server in /etc/make.conf
Code: | SYNC="rsync://rsync.gentoo.org/gentoo-portage" or
SYNC="rsync://rsync.europe.gentoo.org/gentoo-portage" |
but still have the same problem. I read somewhere that rsync-2.6.1 or higher can give this problem but I am using 2.6.0-r6.
