|
|
Since installing vmware 5.5 I have found a problem with the vmware init
If I
Code: | rc-update add vmware default |
and reboot the computer it hangs on boot.
I then boot of an install disk mount my root partitions and manually
remove vmware from the runlevel and
The machine boots without a problem. Once under KDE I do
Code: | /etc/init.d/vmware start |
And that works fine and vmware works perfectly...
I haven't figured out what is happening...
For now I have removed vmware from my deffault runlevel.
Is anyone encountering this problem and has a solution ??? |

Im having the same problem right now. ( using fluxbox )
After updating to kernel 2.6.15.1 i decided to compile it with more tcp/ip/iptables options.
After reboot it hanged and i got an error msg about the all my modules; incluing the ones used by vmware.
So i removed all those modules from startup and booted the box with no issues and later added all the modules back again except the one used by vmware. this time the box rebooted with no problems too.
My conclusion is that i may have selected some kernel option that might be interfering with my new network kernel setup.
Now; everytime i do /etc/init.d/vmware start the box freezes.
Perhaps the fact that vmware uses its modules in a promiscuous mode with my default eth nic could be causing this.
Can you provide more details ? such as some like the ones that i mentionated.
Maybe we have the same problem. _________________ Do you hear the sound of inevitability?

My problem is gone . _________________ Do you hear the sound of inevitability?

Could you clarify on all its traces?
Which files/directories did you remove?
What config files needed updating?
