I recently updated my GNOME from 2.10.2 to 2.12.2 and ran into a small problem. Before in 2.10.2 I had automounting working perfectely and after inserting my USB Flash Drive into my computer GNOME would aoutomount it and display a drive icon on the desktop and in the 'Places' menu. I was reading up on some other topics and saw that there might be a confliction with Gnome-Volume-Manager and famd, so I disabled famd and that didn't seem to affect anything. My main question is if there is a confliction was it causing automounting to not work properly. Here is some useful coding below:

Versions of installed important installed apps

sys-apps/dbus[0.60-r3]
sys-apps/hal [0.5.5.1-r3]
sys-apps/ivman [0.6.8]

rc-status

Code:

Runlevel: default
 local                                                                                                       [ started ]
 netmount                                                                                                    [ started ]
 domainname                                                                                                  [ started ]
 net.eth0                                                                                                    [ started ]
 hald                                                                                                        [ started ]
 mDNSResponder                                                                                               [ started ]
 splash                                                                                                      [ started ]
 xdm                                                                                                         [ started ]
 dbus                                                                                                        [ started ]
 numlock                                                                                                     [ started ]
 hotplug                                                                                                     [ started ]

Configuration in fstab for the USB Flash Drive

Code:

/dev/sdc1               /mnt/usbdrive1  vfat            umask=0000,users,noatime,noauto  0 0

Thank you,
Sirus

I solved the problem by emerging the gentoolkit and using the utility revdep-rebuild to fixed some broken dynamic links. Specifically dynamic links associated with the dbus library.
