Hi, I'm installing Gentoo on my new laptop (Acer Ferrari) and although the howto's and wiki's out there say the wired network should work fine with the tg3 driver, I' m getting a VERY slow connection. desg says that tg3 is working at half-duplex and flow controls are off. Is this normal? Can it be changed?

Gauss_Cleric,
If you use a hub rather than a switch for your network half duplex is normal. I think you get flow control buy collision detection in that case too.
Not all 1GB NICs autonegiotiate with 100Mb hardware properly. Some combinations cannot be made to work automatically.
Many network driver kernel modules accept parameters to force settings.
run to see what parameters yours accepts. This command only works for modules. _________________ Regards,
