i get an Oops 0003 [#11],
and a message :
<0> kernel panic: attempted to kill init
<1> unable to handle kernel paging request on some numbers
Then th oops.
Before all this i get
<numbers> some text
<numbers> some text
....
<numbers>kernel_thread_helper....
and then the errors.
This i get with initrd, without it the monitor just turns off. _________________ gentoo never dies. If it doesnt work, do the most idiotic thing you can, and to prevent it from all unnessecary warnings use --force. This will break it, and while fixing, you will fix everything

The list is a traceback of where in the kernel the error occured. The numbers are memory addresses and the text is function names. I don't know of any way to store this info during a kernel crash, apart from a fast finger on a camera (photo the screen), or a video camera. Could you post you're emerge --info and your kernel config?
