i have an ipw2200 network card on a dell 700m, and the network always stops working, when i install, ive installed a few times in the past few weeks, and am currently running kernel 2.6.10. in the past it seemed like it would go out for short periods of time (about 10 mins or so), and now it has gone out all day, its definately not the router, im currently connected to that router on the same computer through windows, so i really have no idea what to do. thanks in advance for the help.

That could be a problem of the encryption. If you can risk disabling the WPA or WEP-Key temporary, try it. If you can work then without being disconnected, we know where the problem hangs.
edit:
try to see, whether the access point is still recorgnized. |

my network is encrypted, but on gentoo i usually just let it steal my neighbors which is not, and only try switching over when it stops working/slows down, i scanned them and it recognized both, by default it connected to my neighbors unencrypted, but wouldnt get online, i did Code: | iwconfig eth0 essid davis key ************************* | and it connected to my network, but still wouldnt get online. one strange thing to note though.... the computer hasnt left my lap, but when i boot back into windows it does recognize 3 more of my neighbors networks, but they are weak signals, is it normal to have better reception in windows? i guess just better drivers being that they where written by the manufacturer. oh, and when i say wont get online what ive been doing is ping www.google.com, or ping -c 3 www.google.com, and it just instantly says it couldnt be found. |

I had the same problem. What does dmesg say after the card dies?
When loading the modules say in /etc/modules.autoload.d/kernel-2.6
load it without hardware crypto

i did what you said, and my internet is back (yay). when gentoo loads, it says failed when loading ipw2200, not sure why sense its obviously up (im in gentoo as i type). dmesg gives a lot of text, but i believe these are the important lines:
Code: |
ipw2200: Unknown parameter `hwcrypto'
ACPI: PCI Interrupt 0000:00:1f.5[B] -> Link [LNKB] -> GSI 10 (level, low) -> IRQ 10
PCI: Setting latency timer of device 0000:00:1f.5 to 64
ipw2200: Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 2200/2915 Network Driver, 1.0.3
ipw2200: Copyright(c) 2003-2004 Intel Corporation
intel8x0_measure_ac97_clock: measured 50311 usecs
intel8x0: clocking to 48000
