Hi,
I am using KDE on the amd64 build of gentoo and when I went into the Control Panel and was testing out Euphoria and Flux, my subwoofer kicked in and there was a low hum coming through the sub. Each OpenGL screensaver I tested gave a different hum. I'm not sure if the other screensavers made a sound or not, and if they did I couldn't hear it.
Anyone know what might be causing this? What information can I provide you that might help track it down? _________________ Linux Lover #370481

I just noticed when I moved a Konqueror window around the screen it made a hum too. I don't think this is supposed to be happening. Come to think of it, my Ubuntu linux install at work does the same thing...
Any ideas? _________________ Linux Lover #370481

This can happen for a variety of reasons, but basically the same underlying mechanism: the video signal is bleeding into the audio signal. For example, there could be crosstalk between the video cable and the speaker cable, in which case you can fix it simply by separating the cables. It sounds as a low hum because the refresh rate (and therefore the lowest harmonic of the video signal) is ~65Hz, C 2 below middle C. _________________ No more cruft

I've noticed my capacitors buzzing w/some of the screensavers. Annoying, but haven't figured anything to do about it besides ignore it.
