|
|
Hi,
I was wondering what the following type of files are for:
Code: |
# ls /etc/*-
/etc/group- /etc/gshadow- /etc/passwd- /etc/shadow-
|
I have an idea about /etc/group and /etc/passwd; I know the /etc/shadow and /etc/gshadow serve a purpose (though not what).
But what is the purpose of these files with a hyphen-minus added? They differ from the ones without hyphen-minus, and certainly contain important information.
Thanks for any info,
Erik

They look like a backup copy of the files before last change. _________________ Adopt an unanswered post

@dgaffuri: Thanks, most likely correct. I mixed up some cat output pre- and post using usermod. That got me confused.
Will mark as solved. |
