this is a very strange question, i've seen that there are some software for macosx that mute sound at startup, what about gentoo? or does someone know how remove that sound? i really don't like it.
Thank you. _________________ Registered Linux user #379411 Registered Linux machine #278055 |

well.. I would say: go into OpenFirmware, type nvedit and have fun screwing up!
somewhere there in the depth of nvram, maybe there is an option like "whistle" ^^ _________________ [/garbage] |

I haven't a real solution, but still it can help : if you hold the mute key (fn+F3) during the startup, you will not listen the "boing". |

In OF you can also look at all options with printenv and configure with setenv or something like that. _________________ HP ZBook Power 15.6" G8 i7-11800H|HP EliteDesk 800G1 i7-4790|HP Compaq Pro 6300 i7-3770 |

Sceptiq is right, there's no need to be dismissive. Shutting down OSX with the sound muted will turn the startup chime off. _________________ Gentoo PPC FAQ: http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/gentoo-ppc-faq.xml

Muting in OSX doesn't work for me.
But then I got this: Dimming the screen light close to minimum with OSX will make the iBook start with a darker screen. That's what I wanted.
But it's only dark until the kernel loads. Even dmesg tells about 15/15 light, and I didn't find a kernel parameter for this. _________________ HP ZBook Power 15.6" G8 i7-11800H|HP EliteDesk 800G1 i7-4790|HP Compaq Pro 6300 i7-3770 |

Of course, JoseJX. I was pointing to the real initial brightness. It should be more healthy not to switch from off to maximum when turning on the iBook. Code: | $ dmesg |grep backlight
Registered "ati" backlight controller,level: 15/15 |
