Emerging Alsa and Kernal Version

I'm having a little trouble emerge alsa. Whenever I try to do this, it says my system doesn't know what version of the kernal it's running and fails the emerge. Does anyone have any idea why this is and how to correct it?

Ah after a little link fiddling i've gotten it to work.
