|
|
Hi, I have some problem with installing/configuring gentoo
I followed the guide on the net installing gentoo, except for XF86configure, I used X -configure instead.
My computer: Dell Inspiron 8200, P4-1600,
Here are my problems:
1) My screen resolution is at lowest res, I installed nvidia and everything works except for the resolution. I want it to be 1400x1050 (my native laptop screen resolution)
2) I can't seem to find Xfree 4.3 on the portage, I see only 4.2.1
3) I also can't find Mozilla 1.3, I see only 1.2.x.
4) My keyboard settings in gnome aren't swedish, but in the consoles CTRL ALT F1-F6 are in latin1-se, as I did set it up. How can I edit the keybord in gnome?
I am almost done with installing and emerging all the packages I will be using I love the portage system, I have been installing everything and very easy.
THX

Can you provide your XF86Config?

1) Edit your /etc/X11/XF86Config and put your chosen resolution first in the lines where it mentions the resolutions.
2+3) emerge sync

thx yngwin,
gonna try that when I get home
one mroe thing .I read about masked packages.
I seem tro remember when I do "emerge -s xfree" I get two packages, one that is masked 4.3.
BUT when I do the same for mozilla "emerge -s mozilla" I only see the 1.2.x one.
But maybe ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="~x86" fixes both problems
aah can't wait to try it out... it feels so good installing gentoo.. I really feel like I am learning alot about linux.. |

I just fixed some of my problems
for those interested:
1) I looked at /var/log/XFree86.0.log and saw that my horizsync was not sett and it chose an default that wasn't compatible. I googled for information and found what I should have.
2-3) Thanx for you who answered ~x86
4) not yet fixed. .but I think its an easy one..
thx people .. great forum |
