Hi, I've got a Compaq Presario 2711AP Laptop, with a Mobility M6 Chip.. I had a problem initially setting it up for X11, but it's working fine now, i'm just not sure how i got it going..
No xorg.conf file exists:
Code: |
# locate xorg.conf
/etc/X11/xorg.conf.example
/usr/share/man/man5/xorg.conf.5x.gz
/usr/portage/app-emulation/vmware-linux-tools/files/4.5.2/xorg.conf
/usr/portage/app-emulation/vmware-linux-tools/files/5.0.0/xorg.conf
|
and no XF86 files
Code: |
# locate XF86
/usr/share/man/man3/XF86DGA.3x.gz
/usr/share/man/man3/XF86VidMode.3x.gz
/usr/share/man/man3/XF86VidModeQueryVersion.3x.gz

So my main questions are:
(1) x11-base/xorg-x11-6.8.2-r6 is installed, is it being used currently? And if I just create an /etc/X11/xorg.conf, will it use those settings instead?
(2) Where are the default settings it's grabbing at the moment to put my laptop in 1400x1050 with full colour, working keyboard and touchpad etc. and if it exists, is there anyway, I can clone the current settings, so I don't have to go all the way through making a new xorg.conf
(3) How do I know if I used genkernel to configure my kernel initially.. genkernel has not been emerged, so I assumed I configured it manually? |

You could always try making your own xorg.conf and see if it works. I would reccommend copying xorg.conf.example to xorg.conf and then making the appropriate changes |
