I want to use Gentoo for desktop on following PC:

Intel Pentium 3 Klamath 530Mhz
512MB SDRAM
60 GB HDD
32MB Video ATI Card
Sound Card PCI Creative 128

My question is, which Desktop Environment is good for this computer?
Thanks !

Well, you can use any environment, you can use KDE, Gnome, Icewm ... I would suggest to use KDE and set the performance bar at low :)

I suppose KDE is a bit too slow, nevertheless on my 333mhz machine it worked aswell. ;-)

Xfce4 or gnome should be better in performance.

I think Fluxbox would the best. KDE and Gnome are both on the bloated side, and considering your hardware isn't on the new side, KDE might be a sluggish.

KDE's not bad on running speed (other than starting up) in general...

But compiling it takes days, in my experience (particularly on slow machines). So it's a major pain to upgrade. (So I'm now a happy Fluxbox user. :P)

if you want something that just works, then you may want to go for xfce4 or if you want something thats usable with some configurations, then use fluxbox. i suggest stay away from kde, gnome with such hardware.

I used to have k6-2 500MHz with SUSE & KDe, but that wasn't the "demon of speed". Than I changed to gentoo & icewm (although it took me a week to have everything compiled & set) and the difference was HUGE. So if you like to run gentoo on such machine I advise to try one of the lighter WM's.
