Code:
markl@spitfire markl $ lame --decode test.mp3 test.wav
input:  test.mp3  (44.1 kHz, 2 channels, MPEG-1 Layer III)
output: test.wav  (16 bit, Microsoft WAVE)
skipping initial 1105 samples (encoder+decoder delay)
Frame#  9251/9251   192 kbps

Pretty self explanatory :)

GUIs don't always make it possible to decode using a script though :)

EDIT : Ok I feel stupid. I have found it. Continuing my search on Google I arrive on a foreign language site ( prolly swedish ) whicbh explained where to find it, altough I didnt understand a word, the pictures were pretty clear.... Sorry...

Where can I find XMMS diskwriter. It does not seem to be in my plugin list. I haven't found it on www.xmms.org, www.freshmeat.net, sourceforge.net, Icewalkers and Tucows.

When I searched on Google I only received
- XMMS page
- RPM for Mandrake or Alt Linux that didn't work beacause of many reasons like dependency problems and such
- Sites reviewing XMMS

The only thing that could have come close was a package containing 250 plugins on XMMS, site I told myself one of them must be it but the link to download the package was broken.

It does'nt seem to be in Portage either.

Are you sure the diskwriter plugin is not in your list? Normally, if you go to options-->preferences-->Audio I/O Plugins it is listed under output plugin.

The diskwriter no longer comes standard. It needs to be emerged separately;

emerge media-plugins/xmms-disk-writer

Technically it wont be at all losy, the losy bit has already been done converting the source into mp3.

They will just be very big files with lots of padding, and definitely no better quality.
