Hello,
I have a home network and am trying to setup printing services for both computers on the network. No file sharing is necessary (thus no need for samba).
The server: Gentoo Linux running CUPS, HP Deskjet 840C on /dev/usb/lp0.
I <b>can</b> print from the server, works like a charm.
internet connection on eth0,
internal network on eth1 - 192.168.0.1
The client: Windows XP
internal network on eth0 - 192.168.0.2
internet connection sharing between server and client works using masquerade scripts from tldp.org
From what I've read, with Windows 2k and XP I don't need samba, I can just use the IPP protocol.
Thus, to add a printer, I do in Windows XP -> Printers - Add Printer - Connect to Printer on Internet or home/office network - http://192.168.0.1:631/printers/hp - next
Then, a screen pops up asking me about security options - anonymous account, windows logon name or specified user account. In any of these cases, even if I put root and my root password the specified user account, I get a configuration error screen saying that "I do not have access to the printer, please try a different username and password".
Can somebody please enlighten me??? _________________ Hello. |
