Hi there !
Looking at the output of "top" i can see the processes with their nice and priority -value.
High nice-values seem to result in high priority values, but sometimes its not not totally clear.
There are processes with the same nice values but different priority.
Is the priority always and only the result of the nice-value?
Can anybody say some smart things about this and how it works? |

Equal nice values does not mean equal priorities. Priorities of every process are decided by the kernel, and scheduling is designed to give every process some piece of the processing pie.
Nice values simply give a process a better or worse chance of getting a piece of the pie. They have an overall positive or negative effect on the priority of a process, but the priority will still run through the range of possible values.
