There could be hundreds of reasons for this! Does this happen with every video or just with a particular one? Can you give us the output of mplayer before it crashes? Which USE flags did you use for mplayer/vlc? Do you have x86 or amd64?
In the future, you should be a bit more precise when asking questions. |

What happen ?
It's simple ... When i want watch a video on my computer, it freeze my computer ... Nothing happen, and i need an hard reset to reboot ... I have no return in my terminal, and nothing il kernel log ...
It isn't with one video, but with all and it's the same with VLC or Mplayer... I'll think it's maybe from Nvidia driver ... It's very strange !! |

Please run:
Code: |
mplayer your_video_file.avi > mplayerlog.txt 2> mplayerlog.txt
|
Replace your_video_file.avi with the file you want to play. This will probably freeze your computer. When you are back to your system, please look if a file mplayerlog.txt exists and post its contents here.
Then run:
Code: |
emerge vlc mplayer -pv
|
And post the contents here too.
Another thing you could try: Run
And try some of the given outputs, for example gl:
Code: |
mplayer -vo gl your_video_file.avi
|
Hope I could help you! |

You probably want ALSA output. This would happen by calling:
Code: |
mplayer -ao alsa your_video_file.avi
|
