Hi, after upgrading my kernel from a very old 2.6 to the new 2.6.15-r1, i am getting these errors when trying to modprobe snd-cs46xx. I re-emerged alsa-driver and still get them
Code: |
hedlinux ~ # modprobe snd-cs46xx
WARNING: Error inserting snd_timer (/lib/modules/2.6.15-gentoo-r1/kernel/sound/core/snd-timer.ko): Unknown symbol in module, or unknown parameter (see dmesg)
WARNING: Error inserting snd_pcm (/lib/modules/2.6.15-gentoo-r1/kernel/sound/core/snd-pcm.ko): Unknown symbol in module, or unknown parameter (see dmesg)
WARNING: Error inserting snd_ac97_codec (/lib/modules/2.6.15-gentoo-r1/alsa-driver/pci/ac97/snd-ac97-codec.ko): Unknown symbol in module, or unknown parameter (see dmesg)
WARNING: Error inserting snd_seq_device (/lib/modules/2.6.15-gentoo-r1/kernel/sound/core/seq/snd-seq-device.ko): Unknown symbol in module, or unknown parameter (see dmesg)
WARNING: Error inserting snd_rawmidi (/lib/modules/2.6.15-gentoo-r1/kernel/sound/core/snd-rawmidi.ko): Unknown symbol in module, or unknown parameter (see dmesg)

Hi gnychis
I had this problem too. According to the Gentoo Alsa Guide, it's caused by having installed alsa-driver along with alsa compiled in the kernel. But after removing alsa-driver, the problem remained. So my solution was to compile alsa and the driver for my card directly into the kernel and not as modules...
Hope this helps

hey guys,
i'm starting up this thread again... it won't let me insert it as a module, and i have no support for the driver built into the kernel, it gives me those same errors, why can't i just install it as a module instead of directly into the kernel?
Thanks!
