(this is a Gentoo question; bear with me)

I'm running a Linksys WRT54G with DD-WRT and WPA for my gateway. My wired computers are happy pandas, but my freevo box (running Gentoo, which is the connection here) has trouble.

The freevo box is running an 802.11g card (don't remember the one at the moment) with Ndiswrapper and wpa_supplicant, and it's doing very well. So I suspect the problem is DD-WRT... anyway, periodically the freevo box loses connection; wlan0 just stops transferring packets.

A quick /etc/init.d/wlan0 restart does the trick, every time. Obviously, I'd rather have that automated. Until I can diagnose the real problem, I'd really like to have some way to monitor the system and restart wlan0 when it freezes. I guess I could just do it as a cron job, but I'd rather not have it reset the interface when, say, the freevo was downloading TV listings.

Any suggestions? I'm not even sure how to tell (automatically) that the interface is no longer working.

wpa_supplicant-0.4 and baselayout-1.12.0_pre15-r1 will do this for you.
