I am trying to setup samba on my server and i keep getting the following error.
I dont need cups support so is there a way to disable it so samba can start?
Code: | [2006/02/15 12:43:40, 0] smbd/server.c:main(798)
smbd version 3.0.14a started.

What does emerge -vp samba give You? Sure You haven't got it as a USE flag?
It's on by default unless You specifically disable it.
Code: |
# emerge -vp samba
These are the packages that I would merge, in order:
Calculating dependencies ...done!
[ebuild R ] net-fs/samba-3.0.14a-r2 -acl +cups -doc -examples -kerberos -ldap -libclamav +mysql +oav* +pam -postgres +python -quotas +readline (-selinux) -winbind -xml +xml2 15,420 kB
# cat /etc/make.conf |grep USE |grep cups
(...no output=no cups USE flag)

fixed it.
I compiled with USE="-cups" but that didnt fix it, i got samba to start by added the system user to a samba user with smbpasswd. I think im still getting cups errors, but it works like a champ for sharing files with security.
Thanks |

Okay,
I have it compiled with the cups USE flag too (not knowing it was default) for 3 years now, but just don't use the functionality (no connected printer to my server).
Works like a charm... _________________ -=[DrWilken]=-
