Hi you all. I have a problem with the wlan on my hp pavilion laptop. There is no device for it. I have loaded the ipw2200 drivers, emerged the firmware and checked my kernel settings. I have looked on the forum and found a couple of similar problems but not the same problem. I'm on 2.6.15 using the included ipw2200 drivers after failing totally trying with the ones in portage.

Here is my lsmod output. The ipw2200 driver is loaded along with the ieee80211.
Code:

brownie / # lsmod
Module                  Size  Used by
ipw2200               165932  0
ieee80211              44136  0
ieee80211_crypt         6020  0

dmesg however shows some interesting output, could that be the problem, and how should I interpret it? I read something about this having to do with acpi? I dont know what acpi would have to do with my wlan not working.
Code:

brownie / # dmesg | grep ipw2200
ipw2200: Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 2200/2915 Network Driver, git-1.0.8

What ACPI has to do with your LAN-card are some functionalities like wake on lan for example, which is an ACPI functionality.

Try to boot your machine adding the noacpi option in your grub.conf in order to find out if this is the reason for the problem (and it looks like if send TX_POWER is an acpi functionality).

Hi again. I'm sorry but i didnt do the grub-thingie... I use lilo. I however tried adding acpisupport in my kernel yielding no results. So I started all-over again. I removed the ipw2200 module from the kernel, disabled ieee80211 networking stack and basically made it so that no trace could be found of anything having to do with my previous attempts. I then emerged the ipw2200 and ieee80211 modules from portage put them in autoload and it was no problem!

However when the module was loaded I could still not find a eth# device. I want to add that I dont have WLAN at my place, I thought it should at least add the eth-device in any case. I was wrong, I brought the computer to my school where we do have WLAN and there it was. That was the problem...

Thanks anyway =)
