Portage ignoring package.keywords for dev-perl on NSLU2 (arm

My problems is exactly as the title says, for some reason portage is ignoring packages placed in the package.unmask, but only if the packages are in the dev-perl tree. I have resorted to emerging the .ebuild file to get around this.
I am using 2.6.14.3 on linksys NSLU2.

Any help would be most appreciated
