|
|
I have a intel 2100 card and followed the instructions in http://gentoo-wiki.com/HARDWARE_ipw2100 regarding the 2.6.15-r1 kernel.
I only tried the first solution on the page - not the udev stuff later in the article..to noob for that
But alas - the machine now hangs in various random places during the boot procedure (I tried 3 times with the machine hanging at 3 different places totally unrelated to networking...).
I have tried adding hotplug to default runlevel as someone suggest further down in the wiki but no cigar...
Ideas?

It seems a hardware problem.
Go to BIOS and check that you have an Plug'n'Pray(R) OS, and/or disable ACPI
You can also try to boot without the hardware (the card) installed to track it more.
Also would be good to post the last kernel logs ....

|
|
As my initial reason to upgrade was to make gnome 2.12 happy I decided to downgrade to 2.6.14-r5.
All is well now
How very much like me to run into a funky kernel the first time I ever tried a kernel upgrade
Thanks for taking the time to answer. |
