Hi there,

I had a message "Failed to calculate dependencies" at boot up, this was quite annoying so I thought ok recompile everything so I did

copy .config file to safe place

Code:

make mrproper
make dep && make clean bzImage modules modules_install

reboot but didn't help error was still there, then for some reason, don't ask me why I did that I think I'm still to much used to Windows ;), I deleted all files under /etc/modules.d/ and the modules.conf and recompiled again with a mrproper too BUT nothing came back, anyone pls tell me how to restore these files.

BTW: the error is gone now and modules for my nic and other stuff still get loaded but I feel quite uncomfortable without these dependency files :)

thx Ekimus

Some of it is contained in baselayout which you should be able to re-emerge.
Any changes that were made in there will have been lost, however.

What do you mean by "any changes"? Changes since I installed gentoo?

Any changes that were made to your /etc/modules.d directory.
For example, I have an /etc/modules.d/nvidia and /etc/modules.d/cdr.
Those aren't standard, so you won't find them in a new baselayout. It will,
however, restore the files to how they were when you installed.

More accuratly, my /etc/modules.d looks like this, with it's relating package
when relevant:

Code:
/etc/modules.d/aliases  sys-apps/baselayout *
/etc/modules.d/cdr
/etc/modules.d/i386  sys-apps/baselayout *
/etc/modules.d/nvidia  media-video/nvidia-kernel *
/etc/modules.d/sound

hmm I can remember that there were files like ppp and other stuff in this directory but all of these files are standard (module options that are available in gentoo-sources) hopefulle they will get restored :) trying the baselayout at the moment, hopefully it won't bork my system totally this is really a productions system (I study Comp. Science - only first term but still - problems like these wouldn't be a good reputation for me) and without a pc to code my things some teachers would really be pissed of when I tell them about it :)
