Got a problem with my Belkin F5D6020 v2 card......
I can use a vanilla 2.6.10 and the atmelwlandriver from Sourceforge fine, but I can't get it to work at all using the built-in driver in the vanilla 2.6.15-rc4 kernel. Ordinarily I would just keep using the atmelwlandriver, but I can't get it to work with anything above 2.6.10 using the same config. So......
Using 2.6.10 and the atmelwlan driver I can:
modprobe pcmcia
modprobe yenta_socket
modprobe pcmf502re
/etc/init.d/pcmcia start
and it works great.
The output of iwconfig is:
atml0 ATMEL REVE ESSID:"hiwifi" Nickname:""
NWID:off/any Mode:Managed Frequency=2.462 GHz
Access Point: 00:09:5B:85:A6:74 Bit Rate=11 Mb/s Tx-Power=20 dBm
Sensitivity=-1209377568 dBm
Retry:on RTS thr:off Fragment thr:off
Encryption key:off

Link Quality=100/100 Signal level=76/100 Noise level=0/0
Rx invalid nwid:0 Rx invalid crypt:0 Rx invalid frag:0
Tx excessive retries:0 Invalid misc:0 Missed beacon:0
In my 2.6.15 kernel, I have the Atmel at76c502/at76c504 PCMCIA driver compiled into the kernel, and I know it sees the card because the kernel properly identifies my card during boot as eth1 and reports the MAC address.
However, the output of iwconfig now is:
eth1 IEEE 802.11-DS ESSID:""
Mode:Managed Channel:4 Access Point: FF:00:00:00:00:00
Bit Rate:11 Mb/s
Retry min limit:7 RTS thr:off Fragment thr:off
Encryption key:off
Power Management:off
Link Quality:0 Signal level:0 Noise level:0
Rx invalid nwid:0 Rx invalid crypt:0 Rx invalid frag:0
Tx excessive retries:0 Invalid misc:0 Missed beacon:0
I've played with endless options in /etc/conf.d/wireless and can't get any joy. Anybody got any ideas as to what the issue might be? |

I have an older F5D6020 (version 1) which works OK with kernel drivers. I'm using default kernel 2.6.12 (I don't think the kernel version should make that much difference).
I have substituted my own net.eth0, which runs iwconfig (with my own parameters, eg mode managed essid mywlan), then runs dhcpcd, then runs ifconfig ... up. (for stop and vice versa for stop). If I had more time I would trace all the various configuration variables which do/don't get set from this config file and that config file so that the default net.eth0 would do it for me ...
I also have run rc-update net.eth0 default (as I always have the card plugged in and it seems OK without).
You may want to experiment with iwconfig and ifconfig manually. Also you should get loads of stuff in syslog if you pull the card out and put it in again (and which should invoke /etc/init.d/net.eth0 stop and start when you do).
Hop this helps. |

I also use that same card, and in my experience, there is something changed with kernel 2.6.15-r4 which is breaking this card. I haven't looked into it too much yet, but I have 0 problems running it with 2.6.12-r10, but the minute I upgrade to 2.6.15-r4, the link light will blink every 10-15 seconds, and although ifconfig and iwconfig reveals all to be well, the thing just won't work. I would recommend downgrading to 2.6.12-r10 in the meantime, I'll post again if I get it to work with 2.6.15-r4. |

I have the same F5D6020 version 2 card, and just tried to upgrade my kernel from 2.6.12 r6 to 2.6.15 r1 and I've found that the kernel option "Bus options" -> "PCCARD (PCMCIA/CardBus) support" -> "PCMCIA control ioctl" is now obsolete, and thus so are the pcmcia-cs (cardmgr, cardctl) utilities used by kernels 2.6.12 and previous to run pcmcia cards.
It seems that pcmcia-cs has been replaced by pcmciautils, take a look at these sites:
http://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/utils/kernel/pcmcia/howto.html
http://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/utils/kernel/pcmcia/cardmgr-to-pcmciautils.html
...
So, upon upgrading to kernel 2.6.13-rc1 or later from 2.6.12, we're going to need to emerge and setup pcmciautils in order to use our card. I'll be doing this to my machine sometime soon. I can't just yet. |
