Yes I dont see why you can't. I suggest you download the patch and apply to your cvs dir and then make and make install. I know they want to include remember patch to be part of fluxbox but until they do ... you will have to do it manually. With the cvs version I can't tell you if it will work. You will have to give it a try. |

axiom i had the same problem with kdm taking forever to spool up....try 'emerge fontconfig' for some reason that sped it up for me alot
also...i have kdm currently set to start up at default...how do i change it so i get the standard CL login, then type in my username, then just do startx and it takes me to fluxbox...it seems everything above mostly relates to those who knew they didnt want KDE from the get go. also, should i ever want to use kde, can i just type kdm or something rather than startx? thanks! |

Well for the kdm I suggest you remove kdm from default startup.
Code: |
rc-update del kdm default
|
you could always start kdm and choose kde if you dont want to do the startx. I rather setup two user account one for kde one for fluxbox and use the startx command but that is a personal choice.
As for your mouse try /dev/mouse instead of /dev/input/mouse |

like most I too use just the command line and type in startx. my USE flags concerning desktop apps are -kde -gnome X, so that all extra crud is removed.
I do use bbpager and bbkeys and a slitted GKrellm (gkrellm2 -w)

I use gdm for I hate kde and like gdm's theming
my USE flags (well, at least some of them ) are "-qt -kde gtk gnome X
as for extra apps I'm addicted to gkrellm (gtk2) and xscreensaver as well, today i'm planing to install idesk http://linuxhelp.hn.org/idesk.php |

on another note...how come when i start flux with startx rather than kdm everything looks fine except for my idesk icons, which are all shaded over wierdly?
also, is there a way i can make the .xinitrc command "exec gkrellm2 -w &" put gkrellm on the bottom left side instead of the bottom right |

This is probably because idesk is loaded before fluxbox sets your background and so idesk uses the default X background. A double button2 click on an idesk icon should refresh it.

Did you use the remember patch? |

It should be the other way round. You can check if that's the problem by double clicking your mousewheel-middle-click-thingy on one of the icons.

yeah doing that double click on an icon thing made it all look better...this is what my .xinitrc looks like, is there something i should change?:
Quote: | exec fluxbox & wmpid=$!
exec gaim &
exec gkrellm2 &
exec exec bsetbg -f ~/gentoo1024x768.jpg &
exec idesk |
i dont want the whole slit on the bottom right, i like it where it is...just the gkrellm2 |

Try moving `exec bsetbg -f ~/gentoo1024x768.jpg &` up a couple of positions:
Code: | exec fluxbox & wmpid=$!
exec bsetbg -f ~/gentoo1024x768.jpg &
exec gaim &
exec gkrellm2 &
exec idesk | This way bsetbg has more time to draw the background before idesk is started. |

Is that going to make much difference when everything is getting forked to the background? If it doesn't work u could also delay the opening of idesk with a 'sleep'. I put the following into a seperate script ~/.fluxbox/delayidesk :
Code: | #!/bin/sh
sleep 3
/usr/bin/idesk
|
and then I put a line in my .xinitrc / .fluxboxrc that calls ' ~/.fluxbox/delayidesk &' |

1.I don't use a login manager.
2.I have a big long USE line, nothing flux specific though.
3.gkrellm2 as people said before, but I also like bbrun becuse if you set it up to run from ~/.fluxbox/keys it's really useful. |

Hello,
I have 2 systems on linux and a 3rd on win2k, my primary is a p3-933 with 896megs ram running linux and the other system is my little spareparts p120 running 96megs ram. With my primary im still running kde. Needless to say with my little system thats not a viable option, so I use fluxbox... for a file manager I use Rox. This is a great lightweight combo and very solid too! _________________ Life is only as interesting as you make it |

1) xdm in my rc combined with .xsession
2) A lot!
3) iconbar! It takes less cpu power and looks better imho. |
