I'm sorry if this is a dumb question, but I need to squeeze more battery out of my HP ZT3000 laptop. I've run gentoo on it and an AMD-based desktop for a while now, been through most everything (including the "libstdc++.so not found" fun), but I am fully lost when it comes to this.
Under windows, I get almost five hours, but I barely get four out of linux, and any CPU usage and I can kiss those four goodbye real quick. The hard drive rarely ever spins down under WinXP, so that is not it. I have speedstep working, and even when I turn on the powersave governor I'm stuck at four hours. CPU usage is usually nothing. And back when ATi's drivers actually worked (their new ones don't work under windows or linux, they mess up my 1280x800 panel by trying to go all 1024x768 on me) I had power management on but to no avail. Where is all this power going? And it's not just in my head either, I've timed it out. The only thing I can think of is that CPU voltage control is not working, but I doubt that.
The System: Full centrino setup, ATi 9200 video, "slmodem" modem craziness, some kind of i8x0 audio. It is a normal ACPI computer as far as I can tell, no dumb propietary power stuff. |
