Ho alcuni file m4a (aac) che vorrei poter ascoltare con mplayer, l'ho compilato quindi con il supporto per aac (aggiungendo la use aac) ma quando cerco di aprire i file ecco cosa succede:

Il tutto in qualche decimo di secondo... niente errori, sembra che non riconosca il file audio.
i file non sono corrotti perche' usando faad -w pippo.m4a > pippo.wav ottengo un file wav perfetto.
ricordo che in passato (vecchie installazioni) riuscivo tranquillamente a leggere aac con mplayer

Guarda nel man; dovrebbe esserci un'opzione per aumentare i messaggi, tipo --verbose. Inoltre potresti provare a specificare manualmente il driver audio (opzione oac?). Vado a tentoni perché non uso mplayer da qualche anno.

Ok, il man dice:

Credo intendessi questa dato che -oac funziona solo con mencoder.

Sembra che mplayer non trovi nessun tipo di audio nel file... ricordo che faad (l'eseguibile non le lib) decomprime tranquillamente i file.
Gli aac sono stati generati usando faac -b 192 input.wav -o output.m4a ed in passato non ricordo di aver dovuto passare parametri particolari

A me sembra che si lamenti del video... anzi che si è fissato a trovare uno stream video; forse per qualche strano motivo nella conversione c'è finito uno stream video di lunghezza nulla. Probabilmente prima avevo preso l'approccio sbagliato: occorre dirgli di non provare ad aprire lo stream video... immagino qualcosa tipo '-vc null', ma come ti dicevo consulta il man perché io non ce l'ho.

Risolto. MPlayer non c'entrava nulla, era il container che era sbagliato.
Non so per quale motivo ma faac era compilato senza supporto per gli mp4 (il pacchetto non ha use) quindi infilava lo stream dentro ADTS invece che in MP4, cosa che a quanto pare ad mplayer non garba molto.
L'ho riemerso e si e' sistemato da solo  (ora ricordo di aver avuto lo stesso identico problema in passato)
