that's the error i get after booting into 1.1a via cd-rom using the 15.9 mb ISO. well, not entirely true. i get it when i attempt to mount the cd-rom. i managed to get the eth0 working via dhcpcd.
the cdrom does work, i know this much. i installed slack just last night. i noticed that it said that it couldnt locate the module iso and im guessing this is the result of why it cant mount the cd. i looked in /lib/modules/*/kernel/drivers and a few folders in, around up and down. couldnt find any such module.
i reviewed the dmesg and linux DID in fact see the cdrom drive. registered on /dev/hdb. even got the manufacturer name and everything. so i tried to mount /dev/hdb instead of /dev/cdroms/cdrom0 (as per the install guide) and got the same message.
i've scanned the forums and apparently no one else seems to have gotten this error message. search google too. does anyone know what could be wrong? i tried downloading the 1.2 iso and burning it but same exact problem. i'm really stoked for gentoo but i cant go anywhere please help.
thanks,

What command are you using to mount the CD-ROM drive?

Well the problem is with the iso9660 module, which is a filesystem standard for cdroms-disc, guess you have an error on your cd / while reading it / damaged iso image (download error). (check md5sum of image)

t'was neither.
i was using the command instructed in the gentoo installation manual:
Code: | mount /dev/hdb /mnt/cdrom -o ro -t iso9660 |
i mounted the cdrom like i would on my other linux system though, and it works just fine. but now i have a new issue... ill make a new post for it.
