Hi,

I have a somewhat controversial question: is there any chance of finding a workaround to the speed limiting system in azureus. You see I live in the US 8 months a year, and I usually set the upload speed to something pretty high since I have a decent connection. However when I'm in Turkey (generally over the summer), I don't have good connection. With the 128Kbps cable, I can download at 15Kb/s, and upload with at most 2Kb/s. I want to be able to set my rates to these values in Azureus, but of course it doesn't let me (which I don't agree with philosophically anyway). When I set the upload speed to 2KB/s, the download automatically becomes 4Kb/s, which is a joke for downloading most large files.

Do you know of any solutions to this?

Thanks,
bB

Controversial indeed. The easy answer is, "Change the code yourself." It is, after all, open-source. Easy answer - maybe not an easy solution.

From 1 to 4K, the download speed is forced to twice your upload speed. If you set it to 5K or higher, you can set the download speed to pretty much any value you desire. On the other hand, if your actual available upload speed is less than 5K, this has pretty much the same effect as setting everything to unlimited. On asynchronous lines, maxing out your upload will usually slaughter your download speed, anyway.

You realize that a 2K upload speed is just as much of a joke in contributing to the torrent for a large file, don't you? Why grab these files at all when you can't contribute?

Yeah I know that very well. The point of having an upload speed at all is just to make me feel better (after all, I am contributing am I not?). It doesn't help the torrent network at all, which is unfortunate. I will try to take a look at the code, and figure something out if I can find the right file.

Thanks for the reply,
bB
