PostPosted: Fri May 19, 2006 2:18 pm    Post subject: xv error mplayer xine video output Reply with quote

when i try to open a file in mplayer it says that he cant select/init the vo (vide_out) device, in this case, xv

i tried it with
Code:

ferdi@omerta ~ $ cat .mplayer/config
# Write your default config options here!
zoom=yes
vo="x11"

but still "Error with selecting/initializing -vo video_out bla bla bla bla", it wants to use xv

from commandline using
Code:

mplayer -vo x11 path/file.extension
it's nice.. but when i maximize the window it slows down

gmplayer:
Code:

ferdi@omerta ~ $ gmplayer test.mpg

It seems there is no Xvideo support for your video card available.
Run 'xvinfo' to verify its Xv support and read DOCS/HTML/en/video.html#xv!
See 'mplayer -vo help' for other (non-xv) video out drivers. Try -vo x11

Please be patient, this script may take a while to run...
[ good ] you're using Linux, doing specific tests
[ good ] looks like you have a /proc filesystem mounted.
[ good ] You seem to have a reasonable kernel version (2.6.17-rc3-no2)
[ good ] intel compatible processor, checking MTRR support
[ good ] you have MTRR support and there are some ranges set.
[ hint ] multiple xine executables found
I have found multiple xine executables on your machine:
         /usr/bin/xine
         /usr/X11R6/bin/xine
xine is the main player as installed by the xine-ui package.
You should probably uninstall the instances you don't use...
         press <enter> to continue...

[ good ] /usr/bin/xine is in your PATH
[ good ] found /usr/bin/xine-config in your PATH
[ good ] plugin directory /usr/lib/xine/plugins/1.1.2 exists.
[ good ] found input plugins
[ good ] found demux plugins
[ good ] found decoder plugins

[ good ] found video_out plugins
[ good ] found audio_out plugins
[ good ] skin directory /usr/share/xine/skins exists.
[ good ] found logo in /usr/share/xine/skins
[ good ] I even found some skins.
[ hint ] /dev/cdrom points to /dev/hdc, but that's unreadable.
Looks, like you have a /dev/cdrom device that points to your CD-ROM
drive. That is good, as xine uses this device to read VCDs or audio CDs
         by default.
However, you don't have permission to read from this device, so you
won't be able to use it, at least not with this account, that's bad...
Most people nowadays fix this by using a 'cdrom' group:
make sure, that you have a group named 'cdrom', become root and type
         chgrp cdrom /dev/hdc
         chmod g+r /dev/hdc
Now you only have to make sure you're in the cdrom group. The command
         id -a
(executed as normal user) should tell you. Some systems add users to
the 'cdrom' group when they log in from a local console. If yours
doesn't, you'll have to add yourself to that group using your system's
         user management tools...
         press <enter> to continue...

[ hint ] /dev/dvd points to /dev/hdc, no r/w permissions
Looks, like you have a /dev/dvd device that points to your DVD-ROM
drive. That is good, as xine uses this device to read DVDs by
         default.
However, you don't have read/write permissions for this device, so you
won't be able to use it, at least not with this account, that's bad...
If you're wondering about write permissions: they're needed to set
some DVD-specific modes on the drive.
Many people nowadays fix this by using a 'cdrom' group:
make sure, that you have a group named 'cdrom', become root and type
         chgrp cdrom /dev/hdc
         chmod g+rw /dev/hdc
Now you only have to make sure you're in the cdrom group. The command
         id -a
(executed as normal user) should tell you. Some systems add users to
the 'cdrom' group when they log in from a local console. If yours
doesn't, you'll have to add yourself to that group using your system's
         user management tools...
         press <enter> to continue...

[ good ] found xvinfo: X-Video Extension version 2.2
[ hint ] Your X server doesn't support YV12 overlays.
That means xine will have to do color space transformation and scaling
in software, which is quite CPU intensive. Maybe upgrading your
         X server will help here.
If you have an ATI card, you'll find accelerated X servers on
         http://www.linuxvideo.org/gatos/
         press <enter> to continue...

[ hint ] Your X server doesn't have any XVideo support...
XVideo is an X server extension introduced by XFree86 4.x. This
extension provides access to hardware accelerated color space
conversion and scaling, which gives a great performance boost.
If you have a fast (>1GHz) machine, you may be able to watch all
kinds of video, anyway. You will waste lots of CPU cycles, though...

Is fglrx set up correctly? What's the output of 'glxinfo'? 'eselect opengl list'?

In your xorg.conf, remove the 'Section "Monitor"' with the reference to aticonfig Monitor 0 and the 'Section "Screen"' with the reference to 'Identifier "aticonfig Screen 0"'. In the other "Screen" section, replace 'Device "My Video Card"' with 'Device "ATI Graphics Adapter 0"'. The bottom part of your xorg.conf should look like:
Code:

Section "Monitor"

# HorizSync is in kHz unless units are specified.
# HorizSync may be a comma separated list of discrete values, or a
# comma separated list of ranges of values.
# NOTE: THE VALUES HERE ARE EXAMPLES ONLY.  REFER TO YOUR MONITOR'S
# USER MANUAL FOR THE CORRECT NUMBERS.
#    HorizSync  30-64         # multisync
#    HorizSync  31.5, 35.2    # multiple fixed sync frequencies
#    HorizSync  15-25, 30-50  # multiple ranges of sync frequencies
# VertRefresh is in Hz unless units are specified.
# VertRefresh may be a comma separated list of discrete values, or a
# comma separated list of ranges of values.
# NOTE: THE VALUES HERE ARE EXAMPLES ONLY.  REFER TO YOUR MONITOR'S
# USER MANUAL FOR THE CORRECT NUMBERS.
        Identifier   "My Monitor"
        HorizSync    31.5 - 79.0
        VertRefresh  50.0 - 70.0
EndSection

Section "Device"

# The chipset line is optional in most cases.  It can be used to override
# the driver's chipset detection, and should not normally be specified.
#    Chipset    "generic"
# The Driver line must be present.  When using run-time loadable driver
# modules, this line instructs the server to load the specified driver
# module.  Even when not using loadable driver modules, this line
# indicates which driver should interpret the information in this section.
# The BusID line is used to specify which of possibly multiple devices
# this section is intended for.  When this line isn't present, a device
# section can only match up with the primary video device.  For PCI
# devices a line like the following could be used.  This line should not
# normally be included unless there is more than one video device
# intalled.
#    BusID      "PCI:0:10:0"
#    VideoRam   256
#    Clocks     25.2 28.3
        Identifier  "Standard VGA"
        Driver      "vga"
        VendorName  "Unknown"
        BoardName   "Unknown"
EndSection

Section "Device"

        # unsupported card
    #VideoRam    131072
    # Insert Clocks lines here if appropriate
        Identifier  "My Video Card"
        Driver      "vga"
EndSection

Section "Device"
        Identifier  "ATI Graphics Adapter 0"
        Driver      "fglrx"
        BusID       "PCI:1:0:0"
EndSection

Section "Screen"
        Identifier "Screen 1"
        Device     "ATI Graphics Adapter 0"
        Monitor    "My Monitor"
        DefaultDepth     24
        SubSection "Display"
                Viewport   0 0
                Depth     8
                Modes    "1280x1024" "1024x768" "800x600" "640x480"
        EndSubSection
        SubSection "Display"
                Viewport   0 0
                Depth     16
                Modes    "1280x1024" "1024x768" "800x600" "640x480"
        EndSubSection
        SubSection "Display"
                Viewport   0 0
                Depth     24
                Modes    "1280x1024" "1024x768" "800x600" "640x480"
        EndSubSection
EndSection
Once you've fixxed all that, do 'eselect opengl ati' and restart X. If X won't start after you've done all that, change the 'Device "ATI Graphics Adapter 0"' back to 'My Video Card' and it should work again.
