xorg freezing when killed or windowmanager closes

im not really sure what first steps i should take to look into this problem, i tried changing the windowmanager and it did the same thing. in the Xorg log there is nothing about anything after it fails
edit: i tryed going to a virtural console before i killed in and sent ctl c, it says there is a bug in the kernel in mem.c or something like that and also said the modules were affected, i changed from fglrx to the radeon driver and it does not do this anymore
reemerging ati-drivers did not help nor did recompiling my kernel
