Hia,

I'm having problems with one of my smb shares. I have a directory, at /home/Multimedia, which i wish to share accross my lcal LAN, i want people to be able to browse, copy and play the media, such as videos or music, etc, without having to logon or have an authentication mechanism that will work behind the scenes, i'd also like this to work for any new computers that are added to the network on a ad-hoc basis, such as laptops, during lan-parties and such, if that would be possibe.

My trouble is that although, the share is browseable via XP Pro on the LAN, there seems to be some sort of permission problem, as no files can be copied or executed. I'm unsure what i need to do to get this to work, i have added an entry in /etc/samba/smbusers, that maps a username of the XP machine to the 'nobody' account, but this hasn't worked, and is not an ideal solution, i have added the 'guest ok = yes' line to my smb.conf file, but so far nothing as worked.

I've searched alot, but so far the things i've found havn't helped, or i dont understand how to implement them, could someone please help me, i've incudled additional information bellow, which could help diagnose this problem.

-------------------------------------------------------
# My media share
[Multimedia]
comment = Multimedia
path =/home/Multimedia
public = yes
guest ok = yes
writeable = no
-------------------------------------------------------

Permissions on files / directories within the share = drwxr-xr-x

The owner of the directory tree is currently set to = root:root

My security level in /etc/samba/smb.conf = User

I have added an entry in /var/lib/samba/priavte/smbpasswd for my local user and local root accounts.

Name resolution is working fine.

the XP machines ip address as been added to /etc.hosts.allow

----------------------------------------------------------

Can someone please point out what i've missed.

Thanks, Keiko

Hia,

Good news, i've just fixed the above problem.

After much reading and browsing of this and other linux forums, i heard mentions of problems with ClamAV, so i did some digging and amongs other things i was missing the vscan file, once that was created and several minor config changes where made, it was fixed.

Thanks must go to, those who took part on this thread, which helped extensively, Thank You!
