|
|
How do I start on using the 2.5 kernel? I understand I need different modutils or something. What else is going to be different? I tried compiling a 2.5 kernel before but it wouldn't even compile. Now I want to try again and make sure I start out with all the things I need. _________________ "Those who deny freedom to others deserve it not for themselves." - Abraham Lincoln

To get a 2.5 kernel working you need to emerge module-init-tools (from kernel version 2.5.4 I think).
About your problems, I suggest you to try to configure and compile it and eventually post error messages. _________________ I may not agree with what you say, but I'll defend to the death your right to say it. |

yes that is right just Code: | emerge development-sources
emerge module-init-tools |
and change the link of /usr/src/linux to your new kernel in this case the last one is 2.5.65 so you do:
Code: | ln -sf /usr/src/linux-2.5.65 /usr/src/linux |
then just do the normal kernel compilation... _________________ contact me -> azote@mail.i2p
What do you want to emerge today?
if you think that a person is normal, it is because you do not know them well |

This is not mandatory, I think. It's needed mainly by packages that need to install kernel modules right? _________________ I may not agree with what you say, but I'll defend to the death your right to say it. |
