|
|
Hi,
I ahve tried to install this thing, reading this page: http://www.gnome.org/projects/gnome-power-manager/packages.html
Quote: | emerge subversion
cd /usr/local/
svn co https://gentopia.gentooexperimental.org/svn/overlay/ gentopia
edit /etc/make.conf
set PORTDIR_OVERLAY="/usr/local/gentopia"
# If you already have an overlay then do this
PORTDIR_OVERLAY="/usr/local/portage /usr/local/gentopia"
emerge -av dbus hal pmount gnome-power-manager udev |
but it doesn't work, cause when I go to the emerge command, it says it can't find an ebuild called gnome-power-manager...
Has anyone sucessfully installed this? how?

Because you gotta download the ebuild first, put it in the correct folder and build it.
1. Download the ebuild to /usr/portage/whatever
2. Build the build file with ebuild /usr/portage/whatever/gnome-power-manager-.xx.xx.ebuild digest
3. Emerge the ebuild
note replace the whatever folder with the correct folder where the file should be in and replace the xx with the correct version name, the easiest way to do so is by using the tab functionality. |

well, the problem wasn't exaclty that, but now I'm having a different problem....
Code: | nazbox gnome-extra # emerge -pv gnome-power-manager
These are the packages that I would merge, in order:
Calculating dependencies -
emerge: there are no ebuilds to satisfy ">=sys-apps/hal-0.5.6".
(dependency required by "gnome-extra/gnome-power-manager-2.13.92" [ebuild]) |
there is no ebuild for hal-0.5.6, the latest is 0.5.5.1-r3... |

I don't think emerge --sync will work... at least, in packages.gentoo.org, there isn't anything about hal 0.5.6... maybe I need to hack it then..
oh, and by the way... what exactly does the digest thing? why is it needed? |

This digest file lists the md5sum's of all the files found in the SRC_URI. If the fetched source of the package is corrupt/bogus in some way, the md5sum will catch this. |

I hacked the ebuild file and then did the digest thing, after that I tried to emerge it, but I got an error in the end, because I really need hal 0.5.6, at hal site tehere is already that version (and higher), isn't there any ebuild for that? |

can I simply download the tarball and install it by the INSTALL file instructions? won't that mess up my system? |
