PostPosted: Wed Mar 26, 2003 3:59 pm    Post subject: Blank/gray screen in X Reply with quote

Hi, everyone.

Got a sinister probleme with X.

Some background info:
I did a stage-3 installation of Gentoo with gentoo-sources. I picked up XFree from GRP. Then I tried to do the same with kde, but it didn't work, so I had to emerge kde.

Now, everythings works great - almost. I can run kde for some days without any errors, but then suddenly the screen goes blank (or rather grayish) with some white/black horizontal stripe which I can move up and down with my mouse. :x All processes are running as usual and I got full control from keyboard, but the screen is just gray.

The only thing to do is to Ctr-alt-backspace out of X or use some logout key-shortcut and then restart X and kde.

I just don't know anymore what to look for. I have enabled everything in my kernel that should be enabled (as far as i know). I have searched this forum threads and followed their advices from similar problems. But no luck.

Video card: SiS6326

Kernel options:
I have enabled AGP-support as a module.
Generic SiS support is disabled.
No DRI support whatsoever is enabled.

Here is my /var/log/XFree86.0.log
