Hi,
I have noticed serious mouse lag under XFCE (I'am not involving XFCE..), when I load a new page in Mozilla etc...
I also have some issues when I listen some mp3. When I run something, the sound become crappy.
My comp is a Ibook500MHz G3.
Anyone noticed that too ?? maybe Powernowd ???
Thx. _________________ http://stan.openmod.org |

something like this happens to me only when a Out of Memory cancels the emerge of big packets because I forgot to activate swap before.. (iBook G4 1.2ghz, 768MB here... man, I feel fast! )
maybe exessive swapping?
getting something from the hard disc is like ordering something from the other side of the world in comparison with accessing data in ram or cache _________________ [/garbage] |

I have 640Mo of Ram, so it can't be a lack of memory. And it happen's also when nothing else run.
I'll try with Fluxbox.... _________________ http://stan.openmod.org |

I have the same problem.
By the way, did you use some cpuclock control utility?
In my experience, g3-500 has a lag problem when cpu clock changes, which makes the lag more severe. _________________ AMD64 3200+, 2G/160G+250G

This is not a CPU charge problem. Like Btlee, I think it is a problem of cpu frequency management with governor.
Actually, my cpu run at 400MHz
in /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq :
scaling_governor : userspace
scaling_max_freq : 499999
scaling_min_freq : 400000
scaling_set_speed : 400000
scaling_driver : powermac
scaling_cur_freq : 400000
And maybe when it switch between 400 and 500 .... _________________ http://stan.openmod.org |

Frelon,
if you read some code on cpu clock governor, you will know that cpu needs some delay to shift to other frequency.
The delay is a little bit long in G3, which also makes it impossible to choose ondemand or conservative governor.
Actually, I had tried to reduce the delay with modifying kernel code, but it only crashed ibook.
And from some times ago, the lag started to happen during loading some pages in firefox.
But I don't know why it happens, and how to fix it. _________________ AMD64 3200+, 2G/160G+250G

I'm gonna try to replace powernowd by another power manager.
If it not works, I think the best way is to set the cpu at a permanent freq (so...no management !!) _________________ http://stan.openmod.org |

I have stopped powernowd and lag problems disappears.
(I can't set this post as [SOLVED]...) _________________ http://stan.openmod.org |
