Xorg, SiS630/730, Z buffer error [semi-solved]
in this article i'll tell u a semi-solution to the :
[sis_alloc.c:154]: Failure to allocate Z buffer.
error.
in few words:
if u have the right xorg.conf as the one included in this article then 3D acceleration should work in 3 steps :
1- goto any VT and killall -9 X gdm kdm or /etc/init.d/xdm stop
2- run X&
3- run gdm or /etc/init.d/xdm start
then gdm will tell u that another X server is running in VT7 & if u sure that u need to start another one in vt8,
choose yes,
NOTE: if u cant c the msg switch to vt8 to c it & choose yes.
another X server will start & another time gdm will tell u that it running it vt8, press OK.
do login
enjoy the 3D accelerated Appz & Games .
NOTE: now u can kill the first X server now, but remeber that if u restart the second one running in vt8 u will lose 3D again .
if u know the reason of this unexpected behavor please tell us,
some one told me some day that he thinks that it is a Xorg BUG but i dont think so because fedora and other distros uses Xorg running well with the same card on my box.
dont forget to tell us about the results .
this is my xorg.conf:

i have your video card, and always worked well with Xorg 6.8.x, 7.x, 7.1.x (now i'm using 7.1)
no problem with 3D or other stuff. _________________ Arch Tester for Gentoo/FreeBSD
