Hi there,

When i'm booting my pc, kde is loading at startup. Everything was fine until this afternoon. I was using xmms and my computer froze up. I hit CTRL+ALT+BACKSPACE to end my kde session. Now, kde is very very slow to open. It stalled at starting up services and from there, it take 3 or 4 minutes to have my desktop. After this, everything is at normal speed... What is causing that?

Did you check your kdm.*.log in /var/log and/or /var/log/messages (if you're a syslog(d or -ng) user, or your ~/.xsession-errors for checking what happens? Probably it's related with two issues: kde's session management (which you can turn off in kcontrol) or the DCOP/kdeinit daemon. So you should - at least - tell us when it slows down on starts (setting up the previous session, setting the panel, the devices)?

I checked in my kdm.log file and in my .xsession-errors and I didn't find anything regarding this. The problem happenned when I'm booting into gentoo, my login is made through kde and my desktop is appearing. The stalling begins at the Initialization of services in kde. After a few minutes, the splash screen disappears, and then, after 2 or 3 minutes, the panel bar is appearing and after 3 or 4 more minutes, my entire desktop is appearing. To try to solve the problem, i did unmerge kdebase and re-emerge it. It didn't solve the problem...

Another option to remove (after backing up) your ~/.kde* dir and files (and ~/.DCOP* too). HTH
