|
|
I've downloaded the universal liveCD for AMD64, the minimal livecd for amd64, and the minimal liveCD for x86. I've booted them all and they all boot up right to a command line. I was under the impression that these cd's would boot up to a graphical installer? I tried typing "installer" at the prompt to start the dialog based install as well and its just giving me "command not found'.
I have an amd64 x2 3800+
asus a8n-e
nvidia geforce 7800gt
2 gigs ram
I know the installer is buggy so if its just a common bug let me know, but i'm not receiving any errors, it's just coming up to the command line like the normal livecd used to do.
Any advice would be great, thanks.

The graphical amd64 livecd is under 'experimental' on the ftp sites. The graphical x86 livecd is under 'livecd' rather than 'installcd'
Hope that helps. _________________ Sysadmin by trade, geek by choice

Thanks man, that was very helpful.
Found the right one, and it's burning. Lets see if the gui will work for me.

the amd64 installer wouldn't work for me... *sigh*...I am running a difficult nvidia card, though...probably just have to pass odd kernel opts... _________________ Sysadmin by trade, geek by choice

Just a note, in case some one looks at this.
I was using the amd64 version of the installer in the experimental directory and I was getting video errors. I used the x86 version and i was able to boot right into x.
For what it's worth. |

I had the same problem; I'm pretty much sure it's experimental because of the amd64/nvidia issues... I'll be downloading the x86 cd just to see it, but I'll stay with the CLI-based installcd. Power to the CL'ers _________________ Sysadmin by trade, geek by choice

I had errors in that it detected my nvidia card for opengl but used the vesa driver, X looked horrible on my crt monitor so I modified the xorg.conf to use the "nv" driver instead since it would not use the nvidia driver. And I also changed the monitor values after that everything worked fine. |
