Currently I have set up pure-ftpd with a 1:1 ratio, as it stands if you upload 1 meg worth of files you can download 1 meg worth of files. The reason I want to have a ratio set up is so that it illiminates leaches. This works fine but as soon as you end your ftp session the server no longer tracks what you have uploaded. So you may have uploaded 30megs worth of files then shut down your ftp client. The next time you log in the server does not remember that you have uploaded anything and you have to start from scratch.

I would like to set it up so that you could upload a bunch of files and the ftp server would keep track of this and give you "credits" so that the next time you log in you can then download files without having to upload again. If there is another ftp server that is better suited for this that is also fine, or another program altogether.

This is my first post so if i'm missing anything just let me know..... I don't need a walk through on how to do this just a kick in the right direction, or let me know it's not possible.

Found a PROFTP mod that does exactly what I was looking for, thought I would post the link to the site if anyone was curious.

http://www.dynw.com/mod_ratio/

I haven't had time to test it out yet, if anyone has had success with this please let us know. Feel free to post any other solutions or ideas that you may have. When I have a chance to test this I'll post the information.

Installed and tested GLFTPD and it works great for what I'm trying to do. I read a couple of posts saying that this may not be the most secure FTP server but it doesn't look like I have much choice. The description under emerge is "a HIGHLY configurable FTP server" and they aren't lying.

Not sure if this helped anyone

I've been looking for a ftp server that does ratios well too and glFTPd looks like it has the features. It seems popular in the file sharing scene for that reason. I'm not terribly happy with the security situation though. Does anyone have thoughts on this? Is there a better choice or should I bite the bullet and install xinetd on my server so I can use glftpd?
