was wondering which is actually better to do. he automatic or a manual config?

i am going to be getting to that part, prolly tomorrow and wanted to make sure i do it right.

If manual is better, i would assume because you could select your items, how do you know what hardware you really have, like in my case i have the laptop, and i am not entirely sure EXACTLY what hardware it has in it.

Thanks for the guidance.

You mean kernel config? If you know what you're doing and know what hardware you have, or what to look it up, go with manual, otherwise I'd recommend genkernel. If you're talking about something else, disregard this post.

lspci to see what PCI cards you have. lsmod in the liveCD to see what modules are installed. dmesg might give you some clues for other things you can't find. That should get you everything you'd need.
