Hi ppl I'm stuck I can seem to be able to find the stage files. I know there somewhere but I can find them there not in /mnt/cdrom or anywhere else. I know I have all three stages on the cd. Did I miss a step??? 'cause I don't think I did.

Will TIA

a.lost.soul,

If I understand you correctly, you're expecting to find the stage files on the live CD. You won't, they need to be downloaded from ibiblio via lynx. Make sure that you're following the instructions in the user documentation.

Good luck!

Hey thanx for the quick reply that just brought up 2 new problems.

1. I don't have lynx

2. I don't think I have an internet connection because I didn't set it up. when I first ran gentoo I found my ehthernet but I noticed shortly it didn't get an IP from my router.

So what was the point of downloading that 135MB .iso??? If I can use the stages on the cd???

if you downloaded that one you DO have the stages on cdrom...
you should make sure that your internet connection is alive and kicking because you'll be needing it :)
they're in /mnt/cdrom/gentoo/stage*

just use wget if you dont have lynx:
Code:

wget http://www.ibiblio.org/pub/Linux/distributions/gentoo/releases/1.4_rc3/x86/stage3-*.tar.bz2

make sure you are in the /mnt/gentoo dir before doing this

yeah you do. It's a part of the live CD, so if you booted off that, you have Lynx.

What do you see when you run
Code:
# ifconfig -a

As wHAcKer pointed out, if you downloaded the Stage 3 live CD, which at 135MB it sounds like you did, you have all three stage tarballs already.

HTH,
Michael
