|
|
Hi there. I downloaded the livecd Gentoo ver 2006.0 last night because I wanted to try it out, and it doesn't seem to see my wireless pci card. I have a Motorola WPCI810G card, and the OS doesn't install it for some reason. Is there anyone out there that could help me? I really want to install this OS to my hard-drive because it's the best looking Linux distro I've seen, but if it won't let me use my wireless card, then I'm not going to install it. |

14 views, but no replies? Doesn't anybody have a solution to this problem? I thought this forum was for help. Come on, I really want to use this distro, but if it doesn't support my wireless card there would be no point in using it. PLEASE HELP ME!?! |

The WPCI810G has, according to google, a Broadcom chipset. One which, as far as I know, only works with ndiswrapper. I don't believe the LiveCD comes with it. |

Okay, so if I install the OS to my HD, could I install ndiswrapper and it would work? Where do I find ndiswrapper, and how do I install it? Thanks for the reply, btw. |

I''ve just been reading about that wrapper thing trying to get my atheros card to work. I'm sure after you install you can get it up and running. You may even be able to get it to work in now. if you have a eth0 connection i would try:
emerge search ndiswrapper
and see if it is available in the portage tree for download.
hope this helps |

You might also do a search for ndiswrapper at the http://gentoo-wiki.com/. Maybe there is already a HOWTO on this |

Atheros cards use native drivers, you don't need ndiswrapper. You need madwifi.
Anyway, it is in the portage tree, and, amazingly, it's called ndiswrapper. There is no emerge command on a LiveCD, you need an installed and working system to use ndiswrapper. |
