|

I am running KDM on KDE 3.1.1. I can select from a large set of icons in the KDE login manager / users preferences dialog box and they show up correctly in that dialog box. When I log in, however, the icons do not show up in KDM, just the ugly sillouettes. What am I doing wrong? |

Are you using the superuser mode? I'm not really sure if you need to be never actually done it myself, but it makes sense to me that you need to be. Also, I would think that KDM would need to be restarted for the changes to take effect.
Hope this helps...

Just posted somewhere else on this, but...
I've found that you need to log into KDE as root & make changes to KDM. Going into "Administrative Mode" in the Kontrol Panel has not saved all changes for me. Try using the root user to make the changes... |

I find the easiest way is simply to dump the pictures in place. e.g., for a user "esben" I would make a picture in:
/usr/kde/3.1/share/apps/kdm/pics/users/esben.png _________________ regards, Esben

Esben's reply pointed out that the personalization directory in my Control Panel is incorrect. Instead of /usr/kde/3.1/share/apps/kdm/pics/users/ it is showing /usr/share/apps/kdm/pics/users/. That is the problem. Now I just have to figure out how to fix it. |
