I'm using the stock mail-mta/qmail install with only the ssl USE flag enabled. I have it configured such that the environment variable RELAYCLIENT is only set for remote IPs of 127.0.0.1 and 192.168.1.*, but I'm pretty sure someone externally is using it as an open relay. I get bounces from strange email addresses, and the best proof of all: Since I use recordio to run qmail-smtpd, I see all the traffic, and I see lots of emails being sent that I did not send.

Does gentoo's qmail (i.e., qmail with all of the patches gentoo includes) work the way it's supposed to? Does it refuse to relay unless the RELAYCLIENT environment variable is set?

"olympos.local" is my internal domain name; [deleted].homeip.net is my external hostname. "kronos" and "kaos" are two hosts on my network.

Code:
olympos.local
.olympos.local
mail.olympos.local
[deleted].homeip.net
.[deleted].homeip.net
kronos.[deleted].homeip.net
kaos.[deleted].homeip.net
