How can I bind some functions in mc??
I want :
1) toggle show/hide hidden files
2) show dir size
How to use leafpad as editor (mc internal editor is fine but is lack of copy feature- mark and pres middle button:( )
or make leafpad as another keybinding, not to add it in F2 menu, just somthing like ctrl-F4...
If some one have another tips for mc please refer:) _________________ Arch & Fluxbox & 2.6.24-rc-zen!!!!

Very good questions indeed!

I have asked this question myself to one developer and he did not know the answer, so it is probably not possible.
This is from the FAQ:

2.8 How do I change the key bindings?
There is no generic way to reconfigure the key bindings. You can use
the "Learn Keys" dialog to assign keys to some actions listed in that
dialog. However, most actions cannot be redefined to use different
keys. |
I'd really like some tips on using mc, such as the questions you state and so forth. I like Total Commander for Windows a lot and can't achieve a fraction of the functionality with mc. I'd like to think it is my own fault and just some configurations I could do, but I am not sure anymore. |

well .. i think that there are a lot of MC users, but unfortunatelly there is no "useful" documentation (tip&tricks) on the internet
OK .. I know that there is man page .. and it`s hudge .. it has covered everything that MC can do .. but to mention again .. it`s hudge .. a not many people has read it completely ..
i don`t know .. maybe this thread can be the start of sharing some tips and tricks ..
here`s a few stuff that I like in MC:
1. Fish file system
Code: | /#sh:[user@]machine[:options]/[remote-dir] |
2. SMB
Code: | /#smb:[user@]machine[/service][/remote-dir] |
3. I saw somewhere that is possible to mount and umount from mc .. but this is not working in my case, but i`ll post it anyway, maybe someone can use it ...
Code: |
Command->Edit menu file -> Home
add at the end
+ ! t t e Eject eject -r
+ ! t t m Mount mount /dev/cdrom /mnt/cdrom
|
F2-> e eject
F2-> m mount

Yes I have this allready
but only Code: | m Mount-dir mount %s/%s |
It works good, and is useful for mounting fstab things (like cdrom, usb, nfs, etc)
Just point at the dir pres F2 and m and dir is mounted:)
Umount is the same way.
nearly same I did that with external editor, just add
Code: | e Edit leafpad %s/%s & |
dont know how to use that symbols in front of thaht commands , I use my commands without it and it works...
Maybe I will look in manual...
Switching hiden files is still unresolved:(
Good key binding is CTRL-j that paste pointed dir to commandline
and ALT-a which paste whole path to current dir..
also ALT-o which changes oposite dir to active dir... _________________ Arch & Fluxbox & 2.6.24-rc-zen!!!!

Just a note about editor:
you can set the variable "EDITOR" and mc will honour it and run external editor when you press F4 if the box "run internal editor" is unchecked in configuration. |
