Hey everyone. I have been trying to install gentoo for quite a while now and unfortunately i have not archived success.
The problem i am faceing now is the system shutdown, which takes place during the "Unpacking Stage Tarball" process. I am using the 2006.0 distribution i have copied it into two medias. I am aslo using the "Gentoo Install Wizard" from the "Live-CD". I am not sure why the system shutdowns and i also dont have a lot of data to place here. All i know is that it stops next to the file 47 / 95 ( i couldnt get the name of the file ).
Any help would be apreciated.

Is this the graphical installer? If so, try using the text method. |

i attempted to make a command-line based install as you suggested and it worked more then the wizard one. The system shuts down while xorg is being installed. However i do have a command line based linux install, at least i guess i have. Any further input would be appreciated.
I would also like to thank you for your input. |

Could be a hardware problem... CPU overheat? Compiling is cpu-memory-intensive you know .... Have you tried running memtest86 ? |

No i haven't used it yet. But it the problem was overheat the computer wouldn't shutdown always at the same point during the installation. I don't think it's overheat. |

Well, man,
I did not use the graphical installer, but I did have a lot of overheating problems with gentoo in this same laptop.
I could install gentoo by night with a fan turned right to the laptop. Also, depending on your ambient temperature, just freeing up the space under your laptop where are the air entrances might do you much good.
About it stopping allways on the same spot... not so strange at all, as the install process will allways do the same things, and therefore always generate the same amount of heat.
This is my only grudge with this laptop. I had some unfinished wiki install comments here, if you are interested. |
