Just wondering why the source tarballs are tar.gz and not .tar.bz2 ... can I change this easily?
Or am I dependent on what is offered? In that case, are there plans to use bz2 all the time?
Saves a lot of bandwith on each side...
Thx,

If you take a look in /usr/portage/distfiles/ you should see a bunch of .bz2 files. (at least there are a bunch on my system).
Portage uses whatever tarballs the software creators use. There is no intermediate translation. This is one of the reasons that ebuilds can be built quickly. The ebuild is (often) just a small shell script file. _________________ After Perl everything else is just assembly language. |
